Default Headers and vibration?

I have had a vibration in my engine since we put it in the car over 2 years ago. It is a very tight fit with the headers, they are sanderson block huggers. On both the passenger side and drivers side there is only about 1\16" space between the header and steering box and idle arm . I just noticed that the finish is worn on the header where it rubs as the motor revs up. Could that cause a vibration that you can feel ? Does anybody make a header that acutallly fits with space in between or do you have to beat the crap out of them to fit. Thanks

Mine were the same way. Tight fit. Nothing to worry about except for the steering box. It'll get hot so you might want to pop the top and put some lube in it every now and then. Tight fit shouldn't cause a vibration problem tho. The cause of the vibe is prolly that lumpy cam!! :jester

Quick question for ya: Do your fans cycle on and off? My temp stays at 190 and the fans never cycle. Just wonderin if yours do with the alum rad. Thanks!

Brettmc, Yes my fans do turn on and off around town, but once I am up to about 30mph the airflow takes over. When the fans are running it does not take long to bring the temp down. My BeCool control unit comes on at 190 and goes off at about 175. My car on the highway actually runs a little too cold, stays right at the t-stat which is a 160. I have thought about changing to a 180 stat but it seems to work fine now.

Brettmc, How do you like your 850DP on the Rat? I was thinking about going with a 750DP or Q-Jet but after reading lars latest info on carbs, the 850 is not going anywhere!!!

I love it!! Thx to Lars' emails and his papers, I can tune this thing pretty good and pretty fast. I think the reason I buy stuff for it is so I can re-tune it!! Mine's not goin anywhere either....unless....there's a FI unit in my future.

How's yours running?

I was afraid you'd say that. My fans stay on all the time, even at speed. I think I have an airflow prob too cause my temp will inch up at highway speeds. Do you have a pace car spoiler? Or the stock spoiler? Have you done anything to increase airflow to the rad? Looks like I'm gonna be installing an alum rad and a spoiler this spring.

Oh yeah, you're running way too cold at 160. You need to be 180 or over. Lotsa wear at those cold temps.

Brettmc, Still using the stock spoiler, go with the aluminum radiator for sure it will make a huge difference. I also noticed that my motor likes to run a little rich, we tried leaning it out and it ran hotter....
