speedometer ?
i recently purchased an 80 corvette. i have since noticed a speedometer oddity. the one i bought reads to 165mph. i have noticed that most only read to 85mph. what does this mean to you C3 experts?

I believe in 1979 there was a law passed that mandated all auto speedometers to read no higher than 85 mph beginning with the 1980 model year. My late buid '79 has a 85mph speedo.
If your car has a 165 mph speedo, it is not original.

There are a couple of places that covert 85 mph gauges to various speeds, one place I know of does 140 mph conversions and another does 165 (actually 170) they put a adapter that doubles the speedometer speed and put a new gauge face on the speedo. It's a very popular conversion.
I think Eckler's and some of the other parts dealers will do the conversion for you too.
