Well I finally left Munday Chevrolet in Houston. All I can say is the experience of leaving was worse than actually working there. I went up on Monday to sign my paperwork to say I was leaving instead of just weasling out without saying a word and what do I get....no vacation pay for the 8+ days they owed me. I called upstairs to the HR dept to ask about my vacation money and she said that I had to give two weeks notice. I then asked if we got paid if we were fired...she said no. Well at that dealership, the last time someone gave two weeks notice they were fired on the spot.
So I go talk to the General Sales Manager and tell my manager and the HR manager to hold on to my paperwork before turning it in. They say okay. My GSM says that he will just have to put me on vacation so I can get paid and then just let me go afterwords...I go for it like a moron and go up there today to talk to them and they say, sorry can't help you, ohh and we busy also so can we deal with this later?!?!?! They say that my paperwork has already been processed and I will not get paid on my vacation. Funny part is, is that I quite often see the higher up managers p.o.ed that it takes more than a week to file term paperwork... This is what I get for putting up with them for 1.5 years...I used to think they were a good dealership that cared about their employees.....
The best part is, is that small little vacation pay they owed me is going to cost them more when I send all my repeat business to another store. And get a birddog fee for it.
I hope no one from this forum ever EVER buys from them. If you must buy a chevy please go to a smalltime store. I do know of a few good small ones.

I am not trying to get a slander or libel lawsuit from them either, this was just my own personal experiece.

That happend to me to. I found a better job, Thay didnt like that at all.
It was Joe Johnson Chevrolet, Troy Ohio.
I bet there's members on the board that know the dealership.
I got SCREWED out of every thing to. :mad
Re: OT: i left the dealership ... RANT!!! (wackedvette)
That sucks. :mad If you read the small print, you will see they have the right to take vacations back, do away with bonuses, and other perks of your job. The only thing they really have to follow is the state employment laws. I'm with Gene, alway take and then quit. Good luck.

One of life's lessons is to quit AFTER you take paid vacation....NOT before....
situation normal.....

I agree, I took my 2 weeks 1 month before my anniversary date, then quit 3 weeks later. Then my Brother and I opend our own shop. We also worked at the same shop together. He 10 years and me 8 years. Got real tired of their Family :bs, so we started planning 1 year ago. We opened the doors 2nd week Jan.
Always take your vacation pay before quit or aleast ask for your vacation pay before hand.

Re: OT: i left the dealership ... RANT!!! (munday)
Those kinds of things made me leave my parts manager profession. Here is another horror story: My first assignment as a parts manager at a particular dealership in Miami was to formulate a new pay plan for the parts department emplyees. My countermen were paid about 1/3 salary and 2/3 combination of various profits they generated. The owners and parts guys all loved my plan. Two months later, the whole dealership had a very bad month, very few new cars were sold, the service department slowed way down and our parts sales were in the toilet. Consequently, our commision checks were at an all time low.
The very next month we set sales records in all departments. When I submitted the commssion totals for each counterman to the owner, he said that he was not going to pay the full amount! You'd figure a person in his postion would quickly average the last 2 months and see that salaries would not be out of the norm if extended over the 2 months, yet he still insisted on adjusting them down.
Having worked for other dealers and experience similar unscrupulous acts, it was then that I decided to change careers and get out of that business altogether. Knowing the manner in which this dealer treated employees, I gave one-day notice, all my vaction had been taken. I was not irresponsible however: I had fully trained my assistant manager to perform my job duties and the department saw a seamless transition.
In general, this is why you see very few "lifetime" employees at car dealers unlike the old days of RCA, GE, GM, or government.
Sorry you had to go through this Munday, but you'll be better off in the long run for getting out of there.

Yep. When my step-brother was younger, he had worked at McDonald's for long enough to earn two weeks paid vacation (don't know if McD's still offers that or not, and don't really care  ). Anyway, the day he took his two week vacation, he put in his two week notice.
Re: OT: i left the dealership ... RANT!!! (munday)
I had a similar situation when I left my first job. Contact your state employment agency and see if you can submit a wage claim etc. We had that in Illinois and after I submitted it, with any documentation of what their vacation policies are I got a check within two weeks.
Good luck, it stinks when employers have to play games with you like that. I do not advocate violence but you can see why there are situations when people tend to go off the deep end and do violent things in situations like this.
Re: OT: i left the dealership ... RANT!!! (munday)
Sorry to hear about that.......go have a cold one for me - it's over now
IF you want, I can always drop by their dealership & waste all their time. My '68 always attracts 10+ sales personnel who are waiting to hear me say "trade-in"......'course I just  at them ! :flag
