I want to replace the fuel filter on my 68 SB with an aftermarket. What do I do with the vapor return line? Can I plug it and change the gas cap to a vented type?
I'm a bit confused. First off what carb do you have? If it's a Quadrajunk it has an internal paper/bronze fuel filter. Just take it out and throw it away (the filter, not the carb, although you MIGHT want to toss the carb for a Holley) and put an inline filter in the middle of the metal gas line.
hey DJ i remember you saying before that there was a really good inline fuel filter that chrysler made, do you remember what car it was from? im thinking that it would be helpful to this member as well as me.
It wasn't on one specific car, but was used on most of their late 60's-early 70's vehicles. Looks like a small metal popcan with a hose connection on both ends.
I was in Murrays last week and they still have them (Made by Fram). Chrysler even used it on the dual quad hemis, so flow is no problem.
You don't have to use the vapor return line if you don't want to, but you can easily get that Chrysler filter at Wal -Mart or any auto parts store. Fits all kinds of Chryslers but I put one recently on an 88 Dodge truck with 318. It has a 3/8 inlet/outlet and a 5/16 return I think.
If I don't use the vapor return line am I going to have any issues with 'vapor lock' in the fuel sytem? Can I plug the line and forget about it?
