That seems a little steep to me. Is there anything special about it?
actually, yes...the blurb is true....
RARE "CORVETTE ONLY" Q-JET #7028209 FOR A 427/390HP MOTOR WITH A MANUAL TRANS.
That would be the "correct" carb for my car. Except the date is too late for me. They are rare and hard to find because in 1968 that carb# was only used for corvettes. In other years some of the carb#s were used on vettes and other Chevys so they aren't as rare. $425 would actually be a good price for the right carb in good shape. Personally I am not going to contribute to rare/correct parts inflation. I may just stamp the numbers on my Qjet replacement! MJ
:iagree: That's completely reasonable. That's about what I paid for my7029215 carb ('69 427/390) on ebay. From resto parts suppliers I got quotes up to $1300 for the same carb. Original parts with the right dates is not cheap! And yes, I know, it's silly and who cares and all, but there's real satisfaction in putting a car back to the way it was, right down to the numbers. And it still kicks azz. :D
The seller in this auction is Al at Chicago Corvette. He knows what these carbs are worth (at least what he can get for them). This one appears to be in pretty nice shape. I found one about a year ago on E-bay with a suitable date for my car that was much cheaper. It was in worse condition than this one appears but is still complete and rebuildable. I'm in the process of restoring it right now.
I'm near Chicago Corvette and have picked up parts from them. They have trailers full of old parts and carbs. He wouldn't ask his price if he couldn't get it from those doing restorations.
