Default Difference in radiator from 76 to 77?

I have an early 76 (build date 9/11/75) and am planning on changing my 4 core brass radiator out for an aluminum one. I found a nice one one ebay, but it says that it is for 77 to 82. Is there a difference in size? Will a 77 radiator fit a 76 radiator support? :smash:

Thanks,

Jeff

Early 1976 (1st design) use radiator support part number 339176. This was the same part number as 1973-1975.

Late 1976 (2nd design) used radiator support part number 14045929. This is the same part number as 1977-1982.

Note 2 of Part Group 1.270 (Radiator bolt, bracket, cushion, fastener, insulator, nut plate, retainer, screw, shim, SUPPORT, washer) says that the 1st design has studs at lower corners for attachment of fan shroud, 2nd design has no studs.

Do you know who the manufacturer of the radiator is? I would give them a call and ask what modifications (if any) might be necessary. Autozone lists different radiator part numbers for 1976 and 1977. I would think if the radiators were generic enough, Autozone would only stock a single part number.

Sorry not any help.

I have a "late" 76 and have delt with the other side of this issue. I have compared the radiator and support from mine to my in-laws 75, and they are different. I have also been told that the 75 support is the same as the early 76 one by Corvette Central (type in pn.#243045). I personally would take some measurements of the existing radiator (distance between mounting pads both top & bottom and left & right) and ask to company for these measurements on the replacement. I have the lower priced replacement radiator from Zip, and it does not fit that well. I had to make some brackets for it to fit. To answer your question, no they are not the same, sorry.

I've sent an e-mail to the seller to find out if they have the 73-76 radiator, as my radiator support is in good shape and I don't want to replace it with a later version if at all possible. I've fabbed up enough stuff the way it is. I was looking at Dewitt's website and they have a nice aluminum radiator for the 76 (a bit more than the eBay one I saw, but very nice quality).

I'm also installing dual electric fans off of a 2000 Z28 and will be ditching my fan shroud, so there will be some fab work involved there.....hmmmm maybe fabbing in a 77 radiator won't be that much more work.... :smash: :smash:
