The red wire from the tach goes to the +pos. batt. terminal.
The black wire from the tach goes to the -neg. batt. terminal.
The blue wire (should be white) goes to the dash lights for lighting the tach.
The GREEN wire is the 'tach' wire & goes to the +pos. side of the COIL.
Hope that helps. There should only be 1 wire going to your coil.
**Please verify this information before Installation. ;)
Wire colors can vary between aftermarket tachs.....
On a GM HEI Distributor, there are two external connections on the cap. One is for power and the other is for the Tach. Hook the green wire to the tach terminal on the distributor cap.
on the HEI i have i red power, and three wires colors yellow, brown and black, so the green tach wire goe's to wich HEI wire, yellow or brown (cant be black)

On your HEI cap there is a terminal marked 'tach' it will be directly beside the wire marked 'batt' If I am reading your post correct you are looking at the 3 wires that go from the base to the cap. These are not for the tach hookup and connect to the cap behind the tach/batt terminals
