Nearing the completion of my rear end rebuild. Came out to the garage to find a couple of those dreaded 'spots' on the card board. But this time it was under the gas tank! I wiped the tank to see what was going on and now its a steady stream! :cuss :cuss
I can see how to drop the tank, but how do you disconnect the lines before dropping it?? Does anybody have pics or a exploded drawing of of the lines that may help??
Also, does anyone have a good recommendation for a reconditioning service since its impossible to buy a new one for a 1980??
you should have a small section of rubber line going from the sending unit to the fuel line. If you have a return line, then two rubber lines should be visible. The steel lines run on top of the right rear frame rail. Pliers will disconnect the clamps.

When I look at the passenger side of the tank, I see 2 steel lines that go towards the top. I don't see any rubber lines. Should I be reaching around on top to feel my way around??
When I removed the tank from my 81 I removed the straps and lowered the tank using a piece of plywood and hydraulic jack. I lowered the tank just enough where I could reach in where I had removed the filler cap and disconnect the lines.
You can also disconnct the two right hand lines thru the top . Just remove the fillerneck rubber and you should see the sending unit and the connected lines.
Watch out on my 75 there is also a line on the left hand side.
I disconnected everything from the top after removing the filler cap door and trim.I got a replacement from Zip about four years ago. These tanks had internal bladders and I've never heard anyone repairing this type of tank.
