Self-aligning rockers and guideplates.

Self-aligning rockers and guideplates.
Have read that it is a :nono: to use them together but for the life of me I cannot reason why. Seems once the push rod hits the guideplate or rocker guide hits the valve stem tip then there is no further travel so not sure where the binding comes into play. Reason I ask is that I have set of 1.6 non aligning and a set of 1.5 self aligning and I want to mix them on my 2 cars but I would need to use guideplates on both.

Rarely will the guide plate put the nose of the rocker directly centered over the top of the valve stem. If the guide plate edges the rocker slightly to one side and the self aligning rocker try to push it back you will have binding on the edge of the valve stem and rocker and a lot of pressure on the pushrod to guide plate, both causing premature wear.

I guess you could do it if you had the adjustable guide plates which allow you to center the rocker tip on the valve stem. But with the non adjustable guide plates you'd be better off with standard rockers. Besides the self aligning rockers are ok, but the better setup is guidplates with standard rockers.
