Default Anti-Theft Systems Used

What type of anti-theft system, other than the standard Corvette system, do you use?
A type to disallow fuel to the engine.
A type to break the ignition circuit.
A type to monitor door opening with an audio alarm.
A type to moitor vehicle motion with an alarm.
Other.

The Ravelco. I have it, and love it. It disconnects the ignition and neutral safety switch, and something else. Can't start it without the Ravelco key. You can buy them online for like $149, but I got mine brand new off ebay for $50.

I have a special circuit that has it's own key that allows the motor to start, run for a minute then shut off the motor and it refuses to restart unless the key is used. It is homemade so I hope no one can figure it out too quickly and they just abandon the car where it sits.
A few times I fired up the car , this is not at home but out somewhere, pull into traffic just to have the car die. I then have to restart using the special key.

I have re-configured my seat-belt ignition kill wiring ('74 exclusive?) to work only when the passenger belt is buckled and the driver's seat is empty (buckled or not).

Drives the valets insane and will take a joy-riding car thief days to figure out.

I use the factory system ('77) in conjunction will a relay to kill the starter. It is activated only when the alarm has been triggered.

That is an awsome idea for 74s. I am going to do that this summer! Can you have it wired so it only starts when the passenger belt is buckled and driver's side doesn't matter? I am thinking I will get an extra metal part from another belt, and that would work like a key (a mighty big key!). When not in use, take it out and hide in the glove box.

Any details on this would be appreciated.

and I have used target from the gun range hanging in my garage. It kind of sends a notice to anyone in the garage.

As far as alarm away from the home, just use the factory one.

I will have to put something in with the fuel pump now that I am running fuel injection.

I use a log chain anchored to a large eyelet embedded in my driveway that I hook around the suspension when it's out. Working on a system that reaches out from under the seat and de-nuts the perp when they try to drive it away! :yesnod: Should distract them from stealing the car, I figure...

I have a sign at the end of my drive that reads "If you can read this sign then you're in range". Seriously, one of several things remaining on my to-do list is to diagnosis and fix my factory alarm. If it turns out to be a PITA then I'm going to replace it with one like I've installed in my pickup. It has motion/bump/electrical sensors. It comes with a pager that is good up to about 1/8 mile.

:iagree:

The type that disconnects the bad guy from the car.

Though I'm partial to my Springfield Compact in .45

I have Lojack with early warning. As soon as the car moves without the keychain I am notified and I can call the police to start looking.

I am planning on adding Powerlock. That is a relay that goes between the power cable and the starter. It uses a microprocessor that unlocks the relay. You can not remove the relay without destroting the starter. It is disarmed by having it's keychain in the car.

I like these systems 1) because they are passive, I don't need to arm or disarm them, it's auto matic; and 2) Lojack often catches the POS the stole the car.

I also use a club as a visual.

I figure by the time the break the club, then realize they need to jumpstart the car, they'll just give up! If not Lojack has a good chance of finding them.

I guess a noise maker alarm wouldn't hurt either.

I found the best way to do it for ME is when I installed the DPFI, there is a controll/activation 12 volt wire, one of 3 on most stock GM computers....
it is the one that activates the 5 volt line.....NOT the injectors....well so that line with altered color codes goes to a well hidden remote garage door receiver in the car's interior, this means I have to turn on the key, then touch the correct button on the garage door opener hand unit....
latch the relay, and so then crank engine....

been there for years now.....

I use a pager system that includes motion sensor, door and hood sensor, and a starter cut-off programmed to disable the car if the alarm system is removed. The pager system is cool cause if someone dents my ride I will get a message and can run out and see who scratched it. It's the piece of mind I need to park and walk away from it. Otherwise I'd never make it into the building.

One of these days I will develop a cell phone interface so the pager system will be able to call me cause most pager system have a very short range and won't work if you are like 1,000 feet from the vehicle, or are inside a building.
