72 "Factory" Cruise Control
put in my 72. The install came out pretty neat and works perfect. All the parts
are vintage or NOS GM parts. The transducer bracket was installed in the same bolt holes as where the vapor cannister used to be, hidden behind the left fender well. I currently have the cruise lever as the turn signal switch, but may use a NOS tilt/cruise lever switch instead from a 77. I like to drive my car on long rides and the cruise is great to have!! I haven't looked to see if any other Forum members have done this-- Has
anyone else added Cruise to their 72?
up on the brake pedal. Those parts were from a 77. The vacuum /wire
harness is stock and is routed just as would be in any other GM car from
that time. The cruise lever engages just like normal. Just get up to speed
and push the cruise button. I have a NOS cruise/tilt lever button from a 77
that I will probably use instead of the cruise/turn signal. My understanding is that only a 77 has the cruise lever that is threaded and will work in my 72 tilt/telescoping column. This is my attempt to install a cruise setup as maybe GM might have done if they had offered it in 72.

been in about 2 months, and works perfect. It functions just like any other
GM car of that era with that type of cruise control design. It took me a long
time to acquire the parts, but once I had everything, it went together great.
I had to slightly modify a 77-78 GM throttle bracket that bolts on the back of the carb to accept the stock throttle cable without changing it, and to have provision for the cruise cable. The cruise cable is NOS from a 74 Monte Carlo if I rememebr correctly. The underhood servo is GM vintage 76 and the bracket is 77 Corvette.
Can you email me details of the items used, new or used and from what cars/years. Also, what wiring was involved?
Roger
