82 Tilt Steering Column (retaining ring) Help Please
I removed the Steering Wheel and replaced some parts including the carrier assy.
Now I cant push the steering shaft lock in enough to get the retaining ring on the upper steering shaft.
I cant get the tool I used to remove to work as the upper steering shaft just slide's out with out the retaining ring in place
Is there some kind of trick to it.
PLEASE PLEASE HELP

What I did was to temporarily run a set screw (I think a regular hex bolt will work too) into the threaded hole for the tele lock bolt to retain the shaft so it won't move in as you install the ring.

If the "star screw" won't work, you will need a 5/16-18 UNC set screw (#20 allen screw) to install in the end of the steering shaft so that you can compress the lock plate.

Thanks, I ended up using a GM wheel puller and cutting a screw to put pressure on the locking rod.
Now to get the Horn working.
