Default Temp Gauge

My temperature gauge isn't working, what could cause this? Only had the car like 3 weeks now, and when I bought it it didn't work. Any help?

Probably broke, :yesnod: :yesnod:

Check the wire on the sending unit.

Where is all this located at? I am only 3 weeks new at this, and have no clue. Is there any tricks any one knows to check the gauge? Thanks

Look for a wire (single) leading to the temp gauge sensor located in the area shown by the arrow. It is in the cylinder head roughly between the two front spark plugs. The male connection on the sensor is subject to corrosion. By feel (you can't see it) carefully clean it up with fine sandpaper and reconnect the wire with the female end. This is the 10-cent solution and worked for me every year when I took my 1979 out of winter storage and the temp gauge was always wacky.

Once you locate the sender (and the wire leading to it) You should be able to cause the nedle to peg to the hot side by shorting the wire to ground momentarily. If that works, it's probably a bad connection at the sensor or a bad sensor. If it still doesnt do anything you will need to start tracing the wiring between the gauge and the sender, as well as power to the gauge. Suggest you get a schematic if it gets to that (might be helpful in the future anyway) These people have them: http://www.lectriclimited.com/
