yes, its me again with more race challenges. Same guy at work with the stealth twin turbo stoppped by today and envited me to a track racers against street racing cruise from i think Waikiki to haaii raceway park this weekend. (I may show but U never know) he also still wants to run me( at the track offcourse). I asked him how much his car weight and he's not shure but he knows its very very heavy ( all wheel drive). i asked him what kind of power he was generating and he said 500 ( 20 LBS of boost). I, offcourse have the modified ZZ4 producing 385hp/410tq with something like 305rwhp and,...i think the torque was veryvery very good at about 330 or so but i cant remember correctly. I have no pop-up head lights, no air conditioning, aluminum cylinder heads, aluminum intake manifold, aluminum water pump, headers and fiberglass front clip...blah blah blah. How much does a dodge stealth weight anyways? All wheel drive systems add a lot of weight. We have no need to do this thing anytime soon as we get along very well and this race isnt some sort of grudge match. I am trying to keep the car running well enough to justify to the wife to spend the money on an LT-4 hotcam and 1.6 roller rockers (how much power would that add)? You think i can beat him with my current set up or wait untill after the camshaft/rockers swap?
Re: Anyone race a Dodge stealth? (sharkthehunter77)
Dodge dealers here claimed the twin turbo would do 180 MPO out of the showroom. But they were trying to sell cars too. Sorry I can't help with your questions. :conehead
Re: Anyone race a Dodge stealth? (sharkthehunter77)
just remember that racing isn't all hp/weight ratio. It's getting it to the ground that matters. Careful, you might be sitting in your own cloud of white tire smoke while he's 1/2 way down the track with all 4 of his wheels hooking up.
He says he has real trouble hooking up. Says the guy he bought the car from claims low 13's but he's only done high 13's becuase he cant hook up with all four tires?!?!?   Offcourse he has allways said his 60ft times were very very bad, even before he knew i owned a vette, so its probably the truth. If i remove the spare tire my vette should be pretty light. I will have to decide if its light enough to offset his 20 LBS of boost.
1bad69: good point, theres no true four wheel dyno on the island. They just hook up the two rear tires and do the math afterwards. I am beginning to suspect the embellishment turd creeping into this crap. Yet, since we get along so well i'll just ask him again tomorrow about his mods and maybe ask to see a dyno dlip, as we both take our cars to the same race shop!
Re: Anyone race a Dodge stealth? (sharkthehunter77)
One of my old co-workers has a twin turbo Stealth. I'll see if he can get the weight off the door. Personally, withOUT his bottle, I think it's a safe bet you could take it. WITH??? Hmmm,, let us know I guess
Re: Anyone race a Dodge stealth? (sharkthehunter77)
I think a Mitsubishi 3000GT runs around 3,800 lb. I'd imagine the Stealth would be about the same.
I don't think you'll lose. My car was putting out only 260 RWHP and 300 ft. lb. at the rears when I ran a 13.04 on regular $100 255's. Now I'm putting out 280 RWHP and 390 ft. lb. after some dyno tuning and haven't run since. I still have my AC and pop up lights. My 82' weighed right in (before Steeriods and all VBP suspension) at 3,290 lb.
I've never seen a Stealth or 3000GT post any significant times.
Re: Anyone race a Dodge stealth? (sharkthehunter77)
I say its a risky race. I had a friend who had a twin turbo stealth that was all wheel drive. He would launch the car at close to 6 grand, and I never saw him have a problem with it hooking up. Those cars are very easy to get to run 12s with a few mods like a boost controller and such. My friends car ran 12.5s all day long without any problems from just the simple mods.
He's full of BS if he says he can't hook even w/ that power. Those things launch like no other. I'd race him from a roll, on the track of course. :leaving:
Something is wrong with that car if he can't launch an awd vehicle properly  ...a stealth with 347 rwh can run 12.0 - 11.8 1/4 mile time. Even with traction problems (which is not likely with a turbo car since they don't build full boost til higher rpm's)his time should still be better. They're so heavy (around 3900 - 4000lbs) they don't usually have good 60ft times.
You know, i forgot to add he said he runs at the track using 6.00 a gallon race fuel for all of his dyno/track work. I, however, do not. So, I will may either use the same fuel ( recurve kit, bump up the timing and all) or insist we race on pump gas only. Offcourse with all that why not just race him without his turbos as well!?!?!?
hp doesn't really mean alot, what is the avg tq. I was a passenger in one once and the guy scared the crap out of me. He took me out in winter and was driving like he was on a track on the back snow covered roads up here. I was glad for the AWD but it didn't "feel" terribly fast, but then again with me yelling and screaming like a newborn I just wanted out. In hindsight should have stayed freinds with him as he is VP of Production for one of Canada's major breweries.

sharky
Out track sucks for high powered cars. Have you had a chance to try out your new engine at the track? What were your times? If you haven't had the opportunity to do some track runs, DO NOT race for anything more than bragging rights. All of your new found power might just go up in smoke....literally. Have fun!!!
If he is really making that kind of power, I'd be concerned.
But...if he launches hard enough, and really has that much power, I'd be more concerned about him grenading the drivetrain. Mitsubishi's 4WD is great, but put a ton of power through it, and a lot can go wrong. I've heard and seen Mitsu Eclipses, Eagle Talons, and the like destroy their drivetrains because the owners were overambitious with their pursuit of power and asked too much of the drivetrain with the hard launches.
