I read somewhere that with the car off and you depress the accel pump by hand you should have a nice smooth flow of fuel. Lets say the full travel of the pump ( piston) is 3/4", what I have is as follows. The first 1/3 of travel I have a nice shot of fuel. But the remaining 2/3 of travel no fuel is going in. Is this normal?
I had the same problem, Lars was able to steer me in the correct direction - I was able to press the gas pedal down about a 1/4 of the way, from that point it became very stiff of hard. I removed the top part of the carb off and checked the accel pump and found that the rubber cup has actual expanded, the accel pump did not move up and down with any ease in the bore - in fact i needed a pair of plyers to remove the damn thing - It appears that the rubber cup expanded for what ever reason and did not move properly within the bore, thus it was binding - I replaced the accell pump with an Echlin replacement part and the problem was resolved - I noticed that once the new accel pump was installed it moved " smoothly " in the bore with little effort. Let us know how it goes :)
