I have a 70 bb and am trying to fit Hooker sidemount headers. The headers are touching the fenders to the point where I cannot torque the header bolts to the head without interference. I have been in close contact with Holley (Hooker) about this problem. They suggest I look into motor mounts to lower the engine and thus lower the headers. I have also noticed the clearance between my cooling fan and shroud is only about 1/8" at the 12:00 position. The assembly manual has this specified as 0.700"+/-0.20". Therefore they might be right; I have locking type mounts now.
Does anybody have any experiance with motor mounts changing the height of the motor? I have the wide/thin mounts now (these were on the car when I got it). Are all these created equal? Is there another way I could lower the motor approx. 1/2"?
Thanks
I think my frame is ok. I've only had the car since May. It is in very good condition. The frame looks very good, i.e. no rust, extremely clean. All the fiberglass looks to be perfect, No evidence of any bodywork, all press molded panels. The hood, doors, decklid all fit very good. Wheel base is perfect, body mount locations are all good and square.
