Carfax uses the 17 or 18 digit numbers which began in the early 80's. There are no Carfax reports available for cars before that time.
If you're looking for your car's ownership history, the only avenue available for you is good old fashioned "detective work", i.e. tracing prior owners, and asking them where they bought the car. Your state DMV MIGHT be helpful, but most state's keep records for only 10 or so years, AND the new "privacy laws" make it difficult to obtain that info. Hope this helps. Chuck
Thanks Chuck, I appreciate it. I sure would like to know the history of the car. I just bought it and it's a restoration project 75 Stingray, my first. It took 30 years but I'm hopeless in love with it.
