Back halfing the Vette
The motor is about 50% of the way done, got the block, heads, pistons, rings rods, and the tunnel ram. Still looking for a 4.375 crank.
I am going on vacation in July to the Tri Cities in Washington State, and a little property I have in Idaho. I have a good friend who is a fabricator / race car builder in the Tri Cities. He is going to hang a 4 link narrowed rear (probably a 9 in.) aluminum wheel wheels and probably build a tunnel for the Lenco while he is at it. Going to do the 10 point roll bar while we are at it as well.
This also means I have a complete Tom's 12 bolt spool rear end (complete with 31 spline forged axels) with 1480 halfshafts, off set trailing arms, drag shocks, complete set of 1480 u joints and spare parts as well for sale.

Re: Back halfing the Vette (GDaina)
I think Steve's main problem was the guys he had doing his Vette, they made a lot of promises that they could not keep. The Merlin car never ran very good and Steve got tired of it and got out. That will not happen to me, what I am doing is not that trick.
All the time and $$$$$$ you're spending, sure hope you don't pull a Merlin on us....when done, decide it's too much of a car and then get rid of it.
I don't think John would bail. He is totally different then Steve. He does his own work. A person doing everything himself takes more pride in the finished product.
Steve just bought his toy, got ripped in while he was at it.
We should keep in touch.
I am currently doing a similar project on my 76.
Back halfed with 9". I went with TT2, 17"x11" wheels, 315/35/ZR17 G-Force tires, 434SBC with lots of sauce and an Art Carr overdrive tranny.
I can't wait for summer!

  :iagree: I spent 22 months on my 68, complete frame off resto, only things I didn't do was install the windshield and the top, and three months after completing, I spent another month on the 533 inch motor...though it's no monster compared to Steve's or NOX's, I'm more than pleased with the available power, and it's beyond my expectations. To get to the point, I hear what you're saying Norval, I could never part with the 68, not after all the sweat and time I put into it.

Carefull now, guys like GS do some work themselves and have some done for them, I would say he takes great pride in his 68. I would also think Steve bailed out because he did not fit in the car so it must have been very uncomfortable for him to drive.
I would suggest steel tubs over alum, weight is marginal and wont get dented up like alum on the street. My own back half vette is currently midwest outlaw street champ, and I drive it every chance I get .If you need any help let me know maybe I can help having done everything you can do to a c3 .

I'm planning on doing more and more work myself.. I used to live in a condo which made it almost impossible to do certain things.. Now that I have my own home.. I basically do everything possible myself.. or with the help of friends (shoptec, lotahp, electron blue'02 etc)...

Yup...tell me about it...I can't even change my oil without hearing about it...two years ago I changed the starter, for three months the managing co. was sending me glossy photographs of the 68 on jack stands with with a paragraph on back explaining how it's against the rules.
I agree with the going steel interior vs aluminum for the dents that you'll see street driving it. I haven't had the best of luck so far with my IRS, & while I would love to keep it, if I break it again I can see a straight axle in the future plans
Good luck with the install & remember to snap pics if possible ;)
