need help with engine cutout on 81
I have replaced plugs, sparkplug wires, distributor cap and rotor, and coil. The problem I have is that when I try to acclerate the engine stumbles. I can can accelerate if I barely give it gas. But if I press on the acclerator pedal very much it stumbles. I can let off and then barely press the gas and it ignites fumes in the exhaust and backfires and then resumes. The engine idles great and starts and turn off great. I have checked the firing order and it is right. The problem started before I replaced the above items. Any ideas? Does it sound like the computer? No mods have been made to the car as I try to keep it orginal. It is a 1981. Thanks for any ideas.

try seeing if your fule filter is pluged up, and do a fule pump volume test. engines usally only back fire if theres a problum with the gas going into the chamber at the right time or spark. also my ign module gave me a problum sorda like that last summer, but my car would die completly and would stummble if i pushed on the gas to quick after it got hot. :skep:

Good idea. I replaced the fuel filter also. I did notice that there was no pressure on the fuel line when I replaced the filter. I will check out the fuel pump. Thanks.
