Someone please send this dufus an e-mail.
OK OK I couldnt resist....I sent him an e-mail. I'll post a reply if I get one. Doubt it though..........
Thats probably not "that" bad a price , they do not make a reproduction park brake handle of this type. The ones they make now dont have the chrome stripe down the middle and the grip is smooth, not knurled as this is.
Would I buy it for my 69? nope.
But if I had a numbers matchng L88 with full documentation, NCRS award winner, Bloomington award, Duntov award and the current e-brake handle was a bitt iffy....then I probably would.
First one I've ever seen for sale NOS. You can't restore the old ones. Nobody can selectively rechrome over plastic, leaving the "black" areas. This one also has the band on the top which is 67, 68, 69 only I believe. Later ones have the cross-hatch pattern all the way up to the chrome.
There are companies that can and will rechrome the entire plastic handle, then you have to "blackout" what shouldn't be chromed. Last time I checked on the price of this process, it was about $200.00.
Not worth the money to me for my 69, but that's one rare item "for the guy that has everything". Chuck
I was at a swap meet last weekend, and saw a bucket full of these. You could have one for $30. They were not as pretty as this one, but they could be cleaned up and used.
Re: It's back on ebay! Sticker shock! (Kevin Mason)
Well it wasn't me, or the Wife would have both me and the vette outta here! This is a scarce piece though, I don't know about $1200. I was surprised at $560! I had the chrome areas around the button, and the stripe up the back re-done several years ago by a guy in Hemming's for $75, and he even buffed out the exposed metal parts of the lower handle, I'm extremely picky, yet was quite pleased with it. VERY PLEASED with it, especially now!
Unbelievable!
Yep, let's start parting out original parts for 10-20x what we can get replacements for. I could pay for this hobby pretty darn quickly!
