THE CAR HAS HEADERS AND STOCK EVERYTHING ELSE 4 SPEED NO AIR WANTING A STREETABLE CAM TO BUMP THINGS UP A LITTLE ALSO HAS STOCK QUADRAJET ANY OF YOU GUYS THAT HAS KNOWLEDGE OF THIS TYPE OF UPGRADE PLEASE HELP THANKS DRM78
Either the Crane Energizer 272 H10 or Comp High Energy 268H are good single-pattern cams that will bump up performance (see signature) while keeping good idle and low to mid-torque performance.
COMP 260H is a good choice for me. Allows you to use stock valve springs, but gives a throatier idle and somewhat improved performance--reasonably priced at Jeggs.
If your cheap like me look at Summit's cam selection, I have ran 2 of their cams (204/214 dur and 214/224 dur @ .050 lift) with no problems. The latter is in a 383 with heads pretty much identical to l48 heads but higher comp pistons with nice acceleration to 5000 rpm's, prolly a little higher with a 350. I would change out your springs while your at it.
Re: help with cam selection for L-48 C3 (pillowmeto)
I have a CompCams 268 High Energy. It goes very well with a Performer intake and true duel exhaust if you can do that in your state. I also recommend Pro Magnum lifters from CompCams, they are nearly the same price as the normal sort, but will keep your valvetrain much safer again overrevving, yet do not require the attention of solid lifters. They have a little bit of the clickity-clack sound of solid, which you may or may not like :yesnod:
Re: help with cam selection for L-48 C3 (Stewart's74)
I have the 268H 4-speed in my 383, it sounds nice and runs well. Not to lumpy but enough to let them know who is the MAN!
Will have to replace springs though.
I just swapped my stock cam with a 268H. I am now in the process of tuning my carb and recurving my distributor. It used to sound like "ji ji ji ji ji" but now its way cooler, its more of a "blub blub blub blub blub"...
They're all right. Don't be stupid like me. I went with one that has lobes the size of watermelons. Sounds like an 8 cylinder Harley! The whole car rocks from side to side! Man it's awsome!! I mean, yeah, the 268H cam is good. :smash:
I would recommend one of the Comp Xtreme Energy cams instead. You have relatively low compression in the L48, the XE cams are better for those situations. I am running the 268H and it's a great cam, but I have nearly 10.5:1 compression.
Also, ditch the stock manifold for a Performer or Performer RPM. Cheaper and easier than a cam (although intake has to come off to swap the cam anyway) and will make a nice difference.
Make sure your QJet is in good condition, I was losing a lot of HP with my allegedly Stage II rebuilt QJet.
