I used a large phillips screwdriver and a hammer. A punch would work as well. just center the tip on the end of the arm sticking through the clip. Give it a couple good wacks and watch out for the clip and spring to take off in the air as the visor falls in your seat.
Hey Quinn, I am having the opposite problem. My drivers side visor will fall in my lap if the road gets a bit rough. I need to figure out how to get mine to stay in the air. So from what I am reading here, there is supposed to be some sort of retaining ring? I bet mine is gone, hince my problem.

You know, I was going to ask if someone could post a pic but decided against it thinking "Who would have a pic of that?" Lo and behold, Avette4me pulls through. Thanks a ton for the pic. I was just looking through Ecklers and seeing if I could see anything there that would help me out. Their picture is so tiny I couldn't tell what I was looking at. Thanks again!
