I'm about to install and MSD 6A ingition and distributor system. I have several install questions. 1. Where is the best place to splice into a positive and negative battery source. 2. What is the best timing curve and advance stop bushing-it appears that the light silver/light blue springs give full advance at 3,200 rpm. 3. Will this curve provide enough advance for smooth idle. 4. Ideal places to inconspicuously mount the box! Thanks
I can`t help with mounting the box but you should probably connect to the battery or the starter. I think I am using that same spring combination, but then again my application is (slightly) different from yours.

Really nice place to mount it would be behind the passenger side lower dash.
Not much in that area, no underhood heat, dry, and not that bad to access.
Notice that I said, "not that bad".
:D
Regarding the battery leads, the instructions state that one goes to the positive battery terminal and the other goes to the negative. I'm leaning towards putting the positive lead at the starter and the negative lead grounded.
I bought the extension harness and am considering mounting the box behing the drivers side fron wheel well.
Most people install the box behind the passenger side dash. That side of the dash comes out easy and there is room on top of the AC/heating duct. I just wired the hot lead to the hot wire junction connector over the Driver side fender and used the existing hot wire to the existing coil as my trigger lead to the MSD. I connected the ground wire on the frame bolt that connects the engine ground wire from the bellhousing/starter. I stuck with the factory advance curves until I can test at the Strip.

That's where I mounted mine. Out of the heat, weather, and yet still have access to the rev limiter pin.
According to Lars full mech adv should be in by 2600-2800 rpm's for perfrormance, I have my MSD dist set up for 2800 rpm's and it rocks.
:iagree:
I hard wired my 6AL box directly to the battery (both + and - ) I did have the engine and tranny out when I did this so it was easy. If I recall the MSD directions say to wire directly to the battery to reduce the chance of power problems. I mounted my box on the passenger side wheel well (see picture).
I don't recall which profile I used now but I think it was the red bushing and 2 lightest springs. I know I am getting 36 total with 12 degrees initial so it might not be coming in full till 3200. Now I need to go look at it when I get home to refresh my memory.
Here is a link to the MSD directions, it must be the E or F profile:
