Looking thru my haynes manual i can not find a reference to the following:
Between the water pump and the heater core there is something (valve?) mounted to the passenger wheel well. It appears to be a pass thru device as a hose from the water pump goes in the top and a hose to the heater core goes in the bottom. It also has what appears to be a vacuum line coming out of the top of it and running back into the firewall. This has developed a leak and i would like to by pass it with a new/longer section of hose and connect the water pump directly to the heater core.
That is a shut off valve that stops hot fluid from going into the heate core when you a/c is on, some people use a manual one for the summer so their a/c works more effeciently or to just keep it cooler in the passenger compartment if they do not have a/c. No problems bypassing since that is the way it is on non a/c cars.
