If anyone has any experience using ART CARR transmissions/converters I'd like to know about them. Even if you heard something from someone else, I'd like to know. Thanks
my brother uses a art carr 3000 stall converter in his 89 trans am with a 406 ,modded lt-4 intake, 600 lift solid roller, canfield aluminum heads, ford 9 inch rear 410 gears and a 700r4 trans with art carr internals, first time it lasted about 50 miles, second time its been fine for about 2 years ,and its been parked since too many projects. But after the first trouble no trouble after that. Also has a art carr converter in his 81 vette too.

Thanks for the info. I'm looking seriously at their Exteme 700R4 and billet 9.5" converter for $1899. Anyone else???
Nastee 383,
What is the extreme 700R4 tranny like? How much HP is it rated for?
Why the 700 over their 2004R?
I am building a very stout 434 to turn a 9" in my 76 Vette and am trying to decide what to replace my TH350 with.
I want an overdrive tranny for the highway and a strength in gears 1-3 at the strip. I was leaning toward the Art Carr 2004R with full manual valve body and a lock up TQ in overdrive only.

Thanks for the replies. John, I'm going with a 700R4 because its a direct fit. This is for an S15 Jimmy not the Vette. It had a 4L60E in it. Their Extreme 700R4 is rated to 700hp. Their Extreme 200R4 is rated the same.
Nasty383 - My Art Carr was something over $2000 to rebuild my tranny with the 850 hp internals and the 3 clucth 9.5 inch 3500 stall was another $1100.
I've dealt with them for years because they were right here in town. This last tranny has been in for just over 3 years and 22,000 bad miles.
The previous much cheaper Art Carr had been in for 4 years and the only reason that I had it rebuilt is because I had been driving it around with 3800 stall with a blown out lockup and I had metal flake in the bottom of the pan.
There are other good builders out there, But I've never had a problem with Art Carr

Have you considered the Gear Vendors OD? I can't remember exactly, but it's rated at over 1000 HP, with optional features raising that rating to over 2000 HP if I remember correctly.
