Default Starter Help/ bellhousing help

I am trying to replace my starter. I have a small block9350/350hp) with the larger flywheel. I went to advanced and baught the starter braught it home and there is no way theat nose cone is fitting in there. Way wrong. Anyone know what the right starter is? Need help.....

OK. now i am thinking i have the wrong @#$%&**@ bell housing. Any clues? Ideas? Right bell housing? Did the 69 come with a large flywheel? If so was it a differant bell housing?

The only thing I could suggest is to have the auto parts store match a new starter with your old one. Lay your old one one the counter and have them start unboxing 350 starters until you find one where everything matches. I guess there's also a chance that the counter guy punched the wrong numbers into his computer. Another thought is to take your old starter to a rebuild shop or rebuild it yourself. I've run into situations like this before and it can be frustrating. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Take it back and tell them you need the nose piece that fits the larger flywheel. I think for the most part that the nose piece is the only difference between one that fits and the one you got. Don't spend money and time changing the one you got. Make em get you the right one. Be sure you get high torque with high temp soleniod.

Two standard Chevy flywheel sizes: 168 tooth (11" Clutch) and 153 tooth (10.5" clutch.) The 168 tooth starter will have diagonal mounting bolt pattern, and the 153 tooth bolts will be inline with each other. The approximate diameter of the 2 flywheels: 168 tooth=14" diameter and 153=12.75" so you can possibly measure from outer starter mounting bolt hole centerline to the edge of flywheel teeth, the large 168 would be around 1.5" from outer bolt centerline and the 153 would be about 2.125" from outer bolt centerline. Next time compare your old starter to the new one, it is not an easy job finding the right car part on an old car. Good Luck!

I had the same problem, I took the replacement back and had the original rebuilt at a local shop. Cheaper and still original.
