Re: What size tires & wheels with offset trailing arms. (67-L89)
With offset T/A the frame should be the limiting factor. You shoud be able to fit 10" wheels with something like 295 tires without big problems. Backspacing with a 10" wheel is around 5,25" Ive been told.
Re: What size tires & wheels with offset trailing arms. (67-L89)
I'd like to see a C-3 with 10" rims as the offset T-Arm ads claim.I run 15x9 Welds and inside I have under 1/2" clearance to the spring end,and the outer edge of the rim is right at the fender lip.I actually ordered and had to return the 15x10's because I refused to have the tires sticking over an inch past the fender lip.I do run P295 50's and the fit is dead on perfect. :yesnod:
Re: What size tires & wheels with offset trailing arms. (67-L89)
I run 305 radials without a problem but I don't believe any cars can take 5 inch backspacing. I have but it required the spring to be shortened for clearance and like some say the frame becomes the limiting factor. At about 9 to 10 oclock on the drivers side.
With a slightly reworked frame and reducing the fender lip to 1/2 is original thickness a 12.5 inch sectional width tire can be fit.
Re: What size tires & wheels with offset trailing arms. (67-L89)
Im no expert on the subject but several people in here are using 10" wheels on the back of their cars, with BS being around 5,25".
They are all running 17" or bigger wheels thou, that most likely, gives them the extra clearence.
Re: What size tires & wheels with offset trailing arms. (norvalwilhelm)
I currently have offset trailing arms on my 70. Mine are offset in the front and the rear, with a shorter spring. I believe a 10” wheel will work if I notch the frame near the trailing arm mount. With stock 8” rallies I have over 2” of clearance between the tire (28 X 9 MT slicks) and the trailing arm.
Can you tell me what the back spacing is for a stock rallyÂ…not sure where to measure from. Also, does anyone make a template and reinforcement kit to notch the frame?
Re: What size tires & wheels with offset trailing arms. (2000-A4)
Backspacing on the stock rallye wheel is 4".
I dont think you would have to modify your frame to make it work, but try to do a search on that subject. I know people like groovyjay and others have fit 10" wheels.

Here 'ya go:
My 79 with 20x10 with 5.5 back spacing, I'm usin offset trailing arms, 3/4 rear swaybar, Vette Brakes Monoleaf. Because the wheels are so big, I don't have ANY issues with the clearance, nothings's rubbing, scraping or anything like that, it works like it should!

I'm kinda surpriced about this, I have 5.5 back spacing at the back, NO SPACERS OR WHEEL ADAPTORS, it clears the frame, swaybar, spring, doesn't hit the fenderwells. I got the offset arms from VB&P two years ago.

Anyway thats what I plan to do :D
I have told people to go with 5.25 backspacing with large diamter wheels taht are 10" wide, this moves the wheel bit further away from the frame and give the choice of using 295 tires at the back. I'm using 285 at the back. :yesnod:
