I want to replace the studs on all my wheels. The fronts are easy because the hubs are off, but the trouble is finding a good fitting replacement stud. I tried something generic from the local parts store, but it is too loose compared to the original. Does anyone know of a proper replacement? Part numbers would be nice. Does GM have anything?
Also, is it possible to remove the rear studs without removing the rear spindle? Seems like tight clearance.
I do not run backing plates and the only place on the back that works is for the drivers side put the stud to be replaced at 9 oclock, it can be hammered out in this spot and a new one up to 3 inch can be put in at this location.
For the passengers side it is at 3 oclock.
I replaced all 10 studs at these spots. While I was at it I upgraded to 1/2 inch but this involved a special jig and drilling the hub to a larger size.
Hi, I used Moroso 2 7/8" wheel studs if I remember correctly when I changed mine. May I suggest before attempting this project, Purchase all new bearings/seals for the rear, have a heavy duty press, and have/make some form of rear spindle puller on hand. Buying all new lugs wouldn't be a bad idea either. I hope this information helps.
