69 Coupe,4spd with a CE L71 with tank sticker. Other than the block all numbers match. Presently on it's 4th owner with knowledge and history on previous owners with 79K orig. miles. CA car with a excellent frame and body except for the flares front and rear with a good to average saddle interior. Needs paint and some detailing with new SS brakes. Change the fluids, adjust the valves and carbs and should make a great driver. Astro glass with removable rear and has the shoulder harness belts.
Whats It Worth? Than I need to talk the misses into it.
That's a complicated one. NOM really hurts value with the big blocks, esp. the tripowers. The flares detract from value, and paint's expensive. Still, it's a tripower, and that counts for a lot. My guess would be it would be a deal at anything under $17K, and reasonable up to $21K or $22K. By "all number match except the block" do you mean just the other parts of the drivetrain, or all the little stuff like water pump, alternator, MC, etc.? The more original parts under the hood, the more it's worth. If it's too far gone from original to make it reasonable to put back, the less it's worth.
Just the block is a no match, everything else is right on. And that's what I thought was maybe 17 to 18 but the guy wants 20. I'd never try to put it back just some paint and detail, HH Sidepipes and drive it without worrying if it was going to rain or not or if someone hits it etc.
If I really wanted the car for what you seem to want it for, I'd offer $19K & then remove all of the dated correct parts & sell them on ebay for mucho dinero, then drop a buttload of speed gear into it. If you want a driver, you don't need those dated parts, esp. since the numbered block is gone.
Just my opinion, but that would be an expensive car to part out. It's pretty close to original with a tank sticker and some options. If you really wanted a block you could find one. Me I would fix this one original or go buy a $12k small-block car to hop up. You can buy lots of speed for the $7k difference.
Great feedback! Theres no options on this car other than the removable rear window. I need to check the casting number on the block and find out when it was replaced and see if I can find any documentation on that part of it and maybe someday CE blocks will gain some sort of acceptance but I won't hold my breath. That idea of parting out all the good stuff would be a disaster if one day the above happened. Paint job and simple detailing it would be a decent looker and then one day maybe it would be worth changing the body back. It's all there down to the shoulder harness belts. On the NCRS page 10k was the top offer on it as it sits. I'll shoot for 17 to 19. I need something to drive other than my 69 conv. frame off car that I want to get judged someday. I'm aching for a BB bad!
