I drove my car for about an hour today for the first time. As I got close to my house, the car stalled 3 times. I ended up pushing it home. I couldnt see any gas coming out of the carb so i figured maybe it was vapor lock. I droped some gas in the carb and it started flowing gas smoothly again. I am worried that it might not be vapor lock because my car almost stalled a couple of days ago when the engine was still cold. any words of wisdom here?
Could be vapor lock but probably not. The times I've encountered vapor lock was after shutting off the engine and trying to restart. However, it would be worth a quick visual to see if your fuel line is contacting a hot surface (like a header). Since you've pretty well already determined that its a fuel problem, I'd start with a new filter. You might be looking at a new pump. Let us know what you find out.
Question for Forum members who own 72's: How does the gas tank vent? Is it possible that it is not venting properly and the pump is pulling a vacuum?
This sounds crazy I know but for sometime I experienced vapor lock, and a guy told me to buy a wooden clothes pin and put it on the fuel line just before the pump :lolg: :lolg: but I did it and it worked  seems as though they act as a heat sump or something like that. Wierd, but it worked.
Actually Rick there is some science behind the wooden clothes pin system. If you use them as a wedge/spacer to keep the fuel line away from a hot surface, then no more vapor lock.
stuck float, falty fuel pump, clogged fuel filter?
I would first check the gas cap, use or make yours a vented cap.
Is your fuel line running close to the exhaust or block?
