Might work http://store.summitracing.com/partde...t=SUM%2D239422 With a their flow through lid you should get enough air flow.

Also might look at HEI from a TPI era F-body, they have a remote coil.

The late-70's C3s have a bulge that the earlier ones don't. I guess that makes all the difference.

How about this air filter assembly? http://store.summitracing.com/partde...rt=HLY%2D64280

.....you could look into getting your points distributor rebuilt for electronic ignition......pretty sure you can retain the same sized cap and coil.....

There are a couple of options that don't require a new air cleaner. You can get one of the numerous electronic conversions to retrofit to your existing tach-drive distributor so that you have the electronics and can maintain your existing mechanical tach. If you must have an HEI, there is a small cap version that uses an external coil. Either of these options also allows you to retain your existing ignition shielding.

Take some aluminim foil and make a lightly packed ball and put it on the orig.air cleaner and shut the hood. This will tell you how much clearence you do have to play with. I'm using the 10" x 2" edelbrock #eld-1208 on my 75, I realize its not the same but it should work.

Thanks for the tip. I was on the way to the hobby store for some modeling clay to do the same thing. This will save me the time.

How much clearance should there be between the air cleaner and hood?

If you are going to swap out the air cleaner anyways, take a look at an offset base. It will move the aircleaner away from the HEI and no one will notice. Do an internet search for "offset air cleaners" there is a car parts place that sells them..... Maybe Summit has one also, or Jeggs....

Did the aluminum foil trick. It appears that I have about 1" clearance. Is this enough?
