First of all a big thanks to all the forum members who have helped out with advice and encouragement! The 79 is back on the road!!! Camshaft changed out once (2 lobes quite round), intake twice (lots of blue smoke) and new valvecovers PCV etc (stopped the oil being barfed all over the engine). It runs great (thanks LARS).
Its time to DRIVE! (and worry about the headlights/door locks/windows/wipers etc later).
Until I have quite a few miles under its belt and I concerned about breakdowns. What do you guys carry in the way of tools and spares? I am insured thru Hagerty so I can get towed, but naturally would like to get back under my own steam if possible!
1/4-inch socket set.
Spare alternator belt, actually I think I have two.... Just in case I should see a fellow Vette on the side of the road with a thrown alternator belt.
Assorted size wrenches
Those stay in the car all the time. I add to that depending on how far I am driving.
I carry a Craftsman socket set in zipped case from Sears. I put some needlenose and vice grips in there with an all in one screwdriver. I carry electrical tape, vacuum hose, check valves/filter, universal belt, flashlight, utility knife, fuses, and a towel (usually to lay on).
I have a bag that I picked up at the local autoparts store that AC-Delco sells that has jumper cables, fold down chocks, a 4 way, a trolley jack, tire guage, flashlight, gloves, and a reflective triangle. It was about $60. Before I go to Bowling Green, you can bet there will be more tools in that bag!!!

I carry a zippered case from Sears also. The one I have has metric and SAE for 3/8 and 1/4 drive. It also has a screwdriver with 4 different screw bits, some allen wrenchs, and an smalll set of open end wrenchs. The only thing I added to that was some pliers. Besides those tools I have extra fuses and some extra belts.
