This guy treated me very decently on my '68 speedometer fixup, will give you option of rebuild, or in my case calibrate and sell me the parts I needed to do it myself. He's a forum member with handle JOliver. Email him at
Check this guy out. I've saved this number for a couple years and never
got around to calling him myself. A number of fellas on this forum have used his services. John at 1-800-375-2310 Redline Gauge and Clock Repair.
Is there any where that you can get a kit and do it yourself? My speedo in the 69 works, but sometimes it will double its figure, doing 40 the needle will jump to 80, and other wierd stuff like that. I dont really want to spend the big bucks and send it out. Eckers servicing is somewhere around 110 dollars, but needed parts can run up to 170 extra. That is more then a new speedo. I dont want to get stuck in that situation.
Sounds like you speedo cable is binding. It builds up "twist" in the cable housing and the releases. I suggest that you pull the speedo cable at the trans and pull out the "cable" and inspect the cable for fraying or unraveling. Replace if it shows any signs of cable damage. If all is ok, grease the cable and put it back.
