I have seen the previous posts about the subject, and they are informative, but I am looking for a VERY simple setup for my 69.
Has anyone converted a 350 with NO Power Steering or A/C? I just want to run the water pump and alternator with the belt. The implication here is that all I would need to replace are the three pulleys and get the right length belt. No idler pulley - belt configuration the same as the stock "V-Belt" only using a "flat" serpentine belt. I don't need or want an elaborate (underdrive) March type setup - just three pulleys and a belt.
Any reason why this wouldn't work? If it sounds like a reasonable configuration, does anyone know the best source for the pulleys?
Our 89 Blazer has a wide serpentine belt on the 350.
I'm thinking that the pulleys and/or alternator could be transplanted easily.
I can take some pictures, it it helps.
Re: Serpentine Belt Conversion - AGAIN!! (NHvette)
If all you want is the water pump and alternator look at mid 80's Caprice/Impala. They have a wide "serpentine" type belt that only does that. It does not have a tensioner, but perhaps you could rig something up. The only problem I see is that it is used with a long water pump so the lower pulley may hit the crossmember.
