It is time to replace my rag'd roof this spring. I am inquiring if anyone in the central Ohio area can refer a shop to do such. I called one local shop and I was expecting around a $300 total price(this is how much they used to charge 3-4 years ago) and now is near $500. That seems like they are trying to take advantage of me.
If it is really $500 for the roof and labor, how hard is it to replace it myself? I have above average skills (I do most mechanical work and can do autobody and paint).
This comes up pretty often, so a search will yield good results. I bought mine for $149.00 (normally $189.00) 2 years ago direct from Al Knoch in TX. He's pretty much acknowledged as the best quality and a lot of vendors use his stuff. I had help putting it on, but it was not tough. The main thing was, I tried to do it all at once in one day! I found a rusted header and I would have liked to replace it. Instead I repaired it and will chuck it next time.
At that price, I'll do it again when it looks bad.
:iagree:
Go with the Al Knoch kit, it's the best quality around and correct. Also, look up your local shop that recovers seats, tops, etc., the guys who work there usually do work on the side, that's how I got my top installed. I didn't have all the tools and I didn't want to ruin the top and these guys do this type of work all day, charged me $250. to come to the house and install the Al Knoch top I bought, came out great and well worth the price
We charge $800 parts and labor, that= top, pads, weather striping, new tack strips, paint bows, and 6 hrs. labor @ $70 per hr.
$300 to $500 is a DEAL! :yesnod:
