Default TIE ROD END QUESTION 1971

Vetters,
Begining to put my front end back together. Using the ZIP Tie Rod Ends. I noticed that all 4 look identical. 2 of them are left hand threads and 2 are right hand threads.

Question........ When I installed them I used both left threads and right threads on each side, is this correct? Matter of fact I put the left threads on the outers and the right threads on the inners? Is this correct?

Randy

Yes, you were correct. The most important thing is that the same thread is on the outers, the same thread on the inners. This allows that when you rotate the adjuster tubes in the same direction, one tie rod will lengthen, the other will shorten. If you are interested in more info, you can download the following:
http://www.corvettefaq.com/redir.asp?site=198 http://www.corvettefaq.com/redir.asp?site=199

BTW, 199 is from the AIM and details how to orient the tie rod clamps.

Jim it would be impossible for him to do it wrong. The sleeve only accepts a left on one end and a right on the other.
You are right the left is on the outside but if he put it on the inside it would still allow the toe to be set.
By convention left is always the outer.

If you put a left hand thread on the outside on one side and a right hand thread on the outside on the opposite side, then you would have to rotate the adjuster sleeves in opposite directions in order to not change the toe.

Your right Jim. It still works but becomes confusing for the guy doing the alignment.
