I have recieved information from both "Classic Auto Ins." and " American Collecters Ins." One has a milage restriction of 2500 the other 3000, Both are around $100. per year. Does anyone have a better policy? Maybe the same rate with around 5000 miles per year? :grouphug:
Texas has both Antique and Classic (I think that's what they are called). I have Antique as it's cheaper and even though you are only supposed to drive to shows, repair shops, etc., no one I know has ever had a problem. Even the tax office suggested the Antique plates.
As far as insurance, I have Haggerty and haven't had a problem, although I haven't had a claim either but I've heard others have had good luck with them.
Here are the answers! Hagerty will cost you a little over $200...if you qualify. No mileage limit and good customer service.
Texas antique plates are the best bargain in the universe. About $60 for 5 years registration (yes, that's correct, $60 for 5 years. Nothing else). There are restrictions, but we're still waiting to hear a report of someone having a problem with this. You also get to use "year of manufacture" plates. Or you can use the ugly state-issued "Antique" plate (rear only). For '79 it's a little tricky because the post-75 plates used stickers. But you can find a good plate and put a 79 sticker on the car. To find what you need, make a point of attending the next swap meet in your area. Just look for Jesse Perez -- the antique license plate man! :yesnod:
How many miles are allowed per year with Haggerty? Also about what do you pay a year with Haggertys and cost of "Antique" plates?
Hagerty does not state any milage limit, but they do ask you how many miles a year that you will drive the car. Guess that if you say too many, like 20K, then they will turn you down.
The Texas Antique tags cost $50.30 for five years. http://www.dot.state.tx.us/vtr/sppla...ate.htm?nbr=70 All Antique plates will expire in March '08 so if you buy now the cost will be prorated on the time remaining till March '08.
HAHA...wouldn't you know it..quote generator down...DOH! :mad :mad :mad
Well, got through and for 0 deductables on comp/collision, it will be $280 bones/year for my 54k, 81 vette..me being 39y/o male..not bad..state farm trying to lynch me for over $900 bucks/ year!
I just signed up with Haggerty (they haven't underwritten me yet, but they have everything they need, including my $$$) for $146 a year. No restrictions. Though I only drive my car 1000-1500 per year.
I just received my notice that my application has been accepted with Grundy (www.grundy.com). It was very easy, check out htere websight. Only complaint so far was that it took a while for them to respond to my original inquiry. I left a message in thire general mailbox explaining that I had been forgotten and it went very well from there. They were having some computer problems. The underwriter is Chubb. Stronger that forty acres of wild onions.
$202.50 per year, $26,500 agreed value policy. Car is covered if left unattended as well as drivers over the age of 25. It is garage kept, and I have not had a ticket in 15 years.
Yeah, but what you guys don't know is that a second car is MUCH cheaper through these guys. My '68 Mustang is only an additional $26 (or something like that) per year! These folks are encouraging us to collect more classics!!!

Looks like we are neighbors - I just insured with American Classic for $192 and lic. my 71 as an antique (Bell County was very helpful). I purchased the plates at the Houston Corvette show and have the address of the vendor if you need plates.
On another note, Mid Texas Corvette Club is having their annual show this coming saturday (March 13) in the Killeen special events center. over 150 cars are expected. It would be a good opportunity for you to meet other area Corvetter owners. Let me know if you are interested.
Page..were you just able to qualify for antique plates..this year for your 79?
Just had to do my truck registration and picked up the paper work..looks like I have a couple more years to go before I can pick up this deal! :(
You have 2 years before you can get Antique plates. Sorry about that.
However, you still qualify for a Hagerty policy as long as you meet all their criteria: locked garage storage, proof you own a late-model daily driver, etc. etc. etc.
Antique tags and State Farm Insurance with no mileage restrictions.
Basically, I have full coverage on a "pleasure vehicle" and my agent asked me how much I needed to cover <i.e. - $20k, $25k, $35k, etc.>
That way it's not based on the car's value but a 'set' value
