I'm getting ready to replace my 17 year old BFGs. I was on Tire Rack and they have a Yokohama AVIS ST tire in the 255x60x15 size with white outline letters. All of the reviews were glowing and the tire comes with a T speed rating unlike the S rating that the BFGs and Goodyear carry. Also the tire is about 30% cheaper than those other brands. Anyone have any comments on them?
I currently have the Avid S/Ts on my 78. I think they are a great value for the price. The popular TAs or Eagles just don't have the wet handling characteristcs that are needed for Seattle's weather.
I need new tires for the 71 and I am planning on getting Avids from Tire Rack to put on it as well.
I have the Yokohamas on my 73. I think they're a decent tire. I have the 225-70-15's though, so I can't help you with your size. They are nice tires, Summit has them too.
I recently bought a set fo Firestone Firehawk Indy 500s from Tire Rack but was tempted by the Yokohama's because of the speed rating but didn't think I would cruise at that speed all day long. I went with the American  (Bridgestone) tires instead. At least they 'sound' American.
I bought P255/60/15 for the rear and P235/60/15 for the front. Check the rear clearance with the Parking Brake cable bracket. You may have to turn it out of the wway, no big deal.
I have the factory size Firestone Firehawk SS-10's on my 77. Firestone replaced the 10's with the 20's. I have the 20's on my truck and am very pleased with them. Plus White letters on C-3's are
Keep in mind that a higher speed rating usually also means a stiffer sidewall. I had both 225 70R15 and 255 60R15s on my car at one point and they wree pretty good. I autocross and I also put them through 2 drags (2nd of which was 15 passes!! gotta love slow nights) That being said, if you would consider the 275 60R15 size (looks great IMO) I would highly recommend Kumho Ecsta STX. They are fantastic tires and seem to be wearing very well (= slowly). I also just put Pirelli Scorpion Zeros on the front, 255 60R15s, and if you want that size in the rear (so you don't have to relocate the parking brake bracket) I would highly recommend these. V-rated to 149mph and extremely stiff sidewalls! Handling with these on the front is fantastic (for 15 inch rims). Just my rec. ;)

Edit: They obviously get good traction, see that snow flyin' in my sig?
