Default Do front springs wear out???

My '74 SB is getting some front end frame work done, and the original springs will need to come out. Presently, the ride height is 27 3/4", I enjoy the soft ride (roadster cruising), and nothing appears wrong with the OE springs. I do use AC Delco gas shocks and poly bushings already.

Any need to replace the springs, or should they last forever?

I've read numerous posts on the debate between the 460 and 550 replacements (I've checked, no one sells stock replacements anymore), concerning changes in ride height, feel, etc. But haven't seen anyone suggest to simply leave well enough alone, and reinstall the existing.

Thoughts?

Nothing lasts for ever, they do wear out and if it was me I would replace them. But then its not, and some will say if it ain't broke don't fix it. If you like the ride and don't live on a cow path you should be fine. I replaced mine in the 75, our roads are bad and I was hitting bottom all the time.

Simple answer, Yes. I recently had my front(460) and back(stock) replaced and the ride is way better than it was.

PS: If you measure the distance from the bottom of you fenders in the wheel wells to the ground at all four cornors and get 3/4" to 1" difference from one side to the other, it is likely that your springs are tired.

Henry,
The link to the picture at the bottom of your post, is that after you installed the 460's? I like the looks of your ride height. Did you need to cut them?

I had my front springs replaced. The old drivers side had a spacer in it to raise it to the level of the passeger side. The front is level from side to side with the new springs. Therefore, I guess they wear out.

Good point to ponder, '74 Vert! BTW, the door guide receiver you provided me looks and works great, thanks!

No, that was taken before and it was down such that you could hardly slide a hand between the lip and wheel. It now has a 1-2'' gap.
