Default Oil puddle on the intake

I have a small oil puddle that collects in a low spot on the front of my intake manifold. I can't figure out where it's comming from. Any ideas?

Did you use thread sealer on the intake bolts? Proper torque on those intake bolts? Are your valve covers warped? Valve cover gaskets in good shape? Valve covers tight enough? (not too much though)

I am having that problem also, think I have a bolt or 2 that did not seal all the way with the sealer I used, think it was Permatex #2 black. Might try pulling the bolt in the recess and reseal it.

It wicks up from the intake bolts, you need to remove the bolt and use a sealer on it. I have had the same problem before on smallblocks and a little pipe dope does the trick everytime.

I use Oatey pipe joint compound with Teflon for any bolt that ventures into the world of oil or coolant...works great in aluminum as an anti gall/antiseize

Had what I THOUGHT was a similar problem on my '64 with a Performer RPM. (It was the well on the passenger side.) After removing and resealing the bolts a couple times:banghead:, I finally figured that it was gasoline dripping from the rear carb fitting (Holley DP) and when the volatiles evaporate, the residual looks like oil. Tightened the carb fitting and problem was solved.

:iagree:

The threads should be as oil-free as possible. I read a trick somewhere to put sprat some brake cleaner on a thin bristle brush (available at hobby stores), and run it in the threads a few times.
I had the same leaks, and now is is bone dry!!!!

Also, if your PCV hose is loose on the front of the carb, it may drip some oil. I know a PCV is only supposed to pass crankcase gasses into the carb to be burned but sometimes a little oil accumulates and drips out of the hose if it is loose.

Use permatex #2 and that will do the trick. I just installed a motor and used permatex on all the intake bolts to prevent any fluids from following the threads....

:iagree: with the above about permatex plus check your oil breather maybe the grommet is not sealing fully, that is what happened with me until I replaced with a new one now no oil, and since I stopped using my Holley no gas leaks either.
