Default Vacuum source

The guy at the speed shop told me to try to use the vacuum source on the Q-jet rather than the one on the intake manifold (for the headlights). He said if you take vacuum off the manifold, it leans out that one cylinder.

What do you guys think? Is there another vacuum source on the Q-jet?

The guy is on drugs and ignorant. A vacuum tap on the manifold has access to the vacuum signal from all the cylinders sharing that manifold path. You can verify this for yourself by hooking up a vacuum gauge to the tap. If the vacuum is steady, it's a common source but that's not at all in doubt here. If you put a vacuum gauge on an individual runner motorcycle carb, you'll have wild fluctuations in the gauge at idle. Time to go learn that speed shop guy.

The only way a vacuum source will lean out anything is if you have a leak in your vacuum system, which also means they won't work either.

:iagree: ....You should ask him why most GM cars run vacuum off the manifold. :chevy

Of course these guys always think they know more than the Chevrolet Engineers.

What they said. That vacuum hose does fit on a fitting that screws into the manifold. That is GM factory equipment.
