Speedometer cables
Does any one know how many different ways a speedo cable can break & if it could point to a particular problem depending on the way it broke? Mine broke & it was near the tranny end. about 2 inches from the end it looked like a banshie tore into it. I have read an archived thread that said the cable was separated in a tapered manner. Again, would either type of break in the cable indicate a higher possiblity that the problem could just be the cable or lean more toward a drivven gear or the speedo?

Re: Speedometer cables (Fevre)
Mine is a manual tranny, I don't know if if it has the 90 degree adapter or not. I have never seen one before. I unscrewed the cap from the connector that looks to be held on with a small rectangular bracket with 1 bolt.
I tried to find a pic on the net but could not, I think it might actually be a reducer to slow the speedo down when changing the rear gear but it also eliminates the 90 bend of the cable.

Re: Speedometer cables (Fevre)
maybe the cable was replaced at somepoint in the past, it looked a little long, there was enough cable to give an easy bow to it before it went into the driven gear. when it plugs into the gear, it is going paralell to the crossmemmber.

I found that there is no 90 degree angle adapteron mine., I was able to get a new cable for 6$ at autozone, lubed it up with graphite about a 3rd short of the top of the cable. The hardest part was getting the fitting back onto the speedo. (tight fit for my big hands & getting it to go on far enought to lock in place was a b*tch) connected the other end to the tranny & it was good to go. I still wonder if the WAY that the cable breaks could help determine if it broke because of the driven gear, speedo or just the cable getting weak.
