Pull the doors, or not?
I'm at the point of rebuilding my doors (74), and what is everybody's opinion about taking the doors off of the car to rebuild. I'm doing door panels, window regulators, and door controls. I know everything would be easier with the doors on the workbench, BUT is it worth the hassle of taking them off and back on?
Sometimes the best way to do something is just plain a pain in the ***!
I've done enough door repairs on and off and believe me having them off and on a blanket on the workbench is much easier to work on. You will probably also discover that you needed new hinge pins and bushings too. Another part that is easier to get at with the doors off are the gaskets that go under the door handles & locks.
Take your time and do it right so you won't have to do it for another 30 years!

A trick that I use when pulling the doors is to mark around the bolt heads of the upper hinge where it bolts to the door. Then remove those bolts and drive out the pin on the lower hinge. This makes quick work to realign the door when reinstalling. If you remove the bolts on both hinges you will have alot of adjusting to do.Good Luck, Craig :flag
