I've taken the headliners out as they were loose before I put the car away for the winter. Bubba had glued the black circular (about 1" across) plastic pieces that hold the headliner to the t-top. I took all of them off and soaked the glue out of the little plastic fingers on each piece using a liquid solvent. So my questions are ... The little fingers in the plastic 'buttons' are hard, but not brittle, so were they designed to snap together or was there some kind of fabric like velcro between them? Were the original pieces soft rubber?

Mine were the same way except bubba used epoxy which pulled loose and over time warped the headliner panels. Rather than replace the headliner panels I cut the plastic snaps off, recovered the panels with vinyl. I then drilled a small hole through the panels at the center of each snap location and then did the same at the center location on the roof panels. When drilling the roof panels you have to use a drill stop or some means of preventing the drill bit from going through the roof panel. There is a steel plate that the plastic snap rivets attach to just under the fiberglass on the roof panels, the center hole that I drilled went through this. I then used countersunk head stainless screws with a dimpled aircraft skin washer to attach the warped panels back into shape. Just paint the screw heads and washers to match and they look great.
I've pop rivetted all of them back onto the metal support brackets and have put a few of the supports back on the headliners with Lepage's 5 minute epoxy. I'm going to wait a few days for these to cure fully before attempting to snap them back on the t-top.

You should be ok, the bubba that had mine put the epoxy between the snaps :mad so he actually glued the headliner to the roof panel (kind of )
