I know this subject has been driven into the ground (no pun intended!) but here is my setup and my concern. I've got a 72 Coupe, SB, 4 speed, I ran the TRW composite leaf with 8 inch bolts and found the rear ride height (29.25) way out MF Spec for F41 suspension (27.6). So went to a 10 inch bolt and now the height is perfect!
The only problem is that the leaf spring is about 1/4" away from the sidewall of my tires (2.55x60x15). Has anyone ground off the end of the leaf spring for more clearance??
I don't see why you can't, so long as the grinding doesn't introduce cracks or other faults that might compromise the integrity of the spring. If the spring should go on you, while you're driving, you're in for a white knuckle experience, for sure.
Best solution is to take off the POS Muskegon Brake TRW spring and put on a VBP spring. It will lower your car and keep the spring end above the tire where it should be. You shouldn't use longer than a 8" bolt with 15" wheels or a 9" bolt with 17" wheels.
I purchased a POS Muskegan TRW spring, but haven't installed it yet. I have seen a lot of comments/concerns regarding ride height, etc. If VBP has a better product, would you mind telling me what is better? Thanks.
Thanks for the info. Well, I made my decision.................The original 9 leaf steel spring is going back in. With 8 inch bolts, I should be able to get the ride height exactly where it needs to be.
Anyone want to buy a TRW composite spring??
