The machine shop charged me $227 to remove and install all eight control arm bushings. And hot tank the four a arms. I provided the poly bushings. I was thinking maybe $125 to $145.What do other charge for this. I'm thinking I should have bought the press from Harbor Frieght and did it myself...
No, yah didn't. The work on control arm bushings isn't exactly a five minute job, and it does have the name CORVETTE on it. I know guys that would charge $300 for just any old car...... You did not too bad. :hurray:
A press makes it a LOT easier. A vise will do the job and probably tear up your control arms a bit. A fair price, not a deal, but fair. I agree, since I did it myself, not a five minute job. Especially not the first time!
Machine shop here charges $5.00 per bushing to remove and $5.00 per bushing to install, to blast them $10.00 an arm...that comes out to $40.00 to blast them...$80 for the bushings...
You did fine. It's the all in what you want. I charge one hour ($60.00 period) for any tank work because of the cost to run it (my overhead). You can scrape and steel brush etc., but caustic soda gets it all! You end up with a part ready to paint. Got time and expertise? Do it yourself. Otherwise, get help.
A machine shop in SoCal did the cleanup and install of new poly bushings on mine for $50. I did the removal of the old. I think you need to understand that folks are in business, and anytime you can do something, or part of something yourself, you can generally be better off.
I little high but not outrageous, if you removed the control arms from the car.
If they removed and replaced them, then a good deal.
My shop (which mucked up one of my arms) would charge $50 remove,
$50 install, and $35 to blast 'em. So - maybe about $170.
Much more to take them off the car.

I did that at home using only hand tools. No need for a press unless you reinstall rubber bushings.
Installed mine at home, rubber bushings using a big socket and a heavy hammer, torched out the old rubber

I did the same thing but drill holes all around the old bushing then stuck a screw driver in it and turned it right out. I didn't like the torch method too slow and stinky.
