Its dupont chroma system...basecoat/clearcoat
I was charged 5K for the job...it had 4 places where some small fiberglass cracks had to be repaired.
He said 5 coats base, then 5 clear...then the basecoat "blushed"
It could not be buffed out...then it was wet sanded with 400 and reshot a secound time...5 base then 5 clear....
now I have 2 repairs showing through and there are no less than a dozen small bubbles
I feel for 5K I can be picky....
I am not on speaking terms with the painter anymore since I called "His" paint store and asked some questions and wanted a dupont rep to look at the car...The paint store then called him to let him know I called.... he didnt like me asking questions....So, he then cursed me up and down...
All the while he has been 4 months behind on his mortgage...trying to pay a lawyer for child custody and dragging his feet for 4 1/2 months with my car...
When he called to curse me out...that was the final straw!!! I went to pick up what was left of my car....Oh, He doesnt put it back together...thats left for the owner...and personally, seeing his work...I wouldn`t want him in on the reassembly process...I got it home and had to hand sand, compound, and buff myself...
I am very upset with myself....when I dropped the car off in Qctober..He required half up front...the car sat for a month torn apart!!...then he calls me to ask for the rest of the money...I told him no way!!! he explained that he was in really bad finacial trouble and he might have to close the shop down and made all sorts of promises if I would help him out....so...the good guy that I am gives him 1500 more...Now I`m out 4K and have a torn apart car...
The Promises came and went and so did the completion date...after the car was painted the first time...he puts his hand out and asks for the last 1000 bucks...I said it wasnt done yet...sanding, Buffing etc.
He proceeds to tell me thats how he does buisness and its a good paint job and will buff out nicely. Besides...If I dont want it to be pushed aside and sit again...pay him...so I did.....Like an @ZZ!!!
But guess what...the car sat again!!!!
Thats when bubbles started showing and I voiced my concerns...
His reputation as a painter rides on the job he did on this car...of course I let everyone know who did the work!!!

 

One other thing...in this state, Small claims court only limits to 2500.00 bucks...how do you get anything from someone whos broke?
I decided for my sanity to just let it go and salvage what I could!! :mad

Is this guy still in business? If so would you mind sending me an email with the name and location of the shop? I plan on having my 73 painted late spring and looking for shops in the memphis area don't want to make the mistake of using this guy. For $5000 you should epect quality and service.
