Anyone with a 71 out there, I need some help. Can someone tell me the number of and color of the wires that are supposed to be connected to the terminal highlighted in the picture below?

Thanks!!

No expert on 71's, but that lug/terminal looks like the terminal where the ground wire attaches. You should find a black wire with a female straight connector that slips over that lug. I've seen some cars where there are 2 black wires within the same female connector. Chuck

Yup, That is the ground terminal. On my car it runs down and picks pu a ground down at the blower motor above the starter. All you need to do is find a good ground. If the case of the wiper motor is not grounded then your wipers will not work. I can take pictures if needed.

Yup, That is the ground terminal.
:iagree: If you have the factory alarm that wiring harness connector also grounds here.

He's right I just went and checked on mine. Are the wipers working now?

One more question:

When I bought the car, the wipers were not working and a dark blue wire that comes from a harness just to the left of the wiper motor was attached to the lug that ya'll have identified as the ground lug. I think this is probably the same dark blue wire that is connected to the back of the wiper switch. Any idea where this dark blue wire should be connected?? At some point, both the dark blue and black wire (from the harness left of the wiper motor) were both attached to the wiper ground lug and it MELTED the ground wire. Thanks again for all your help!!!!!!

Bill

I am looking at the wiring diagram in the AIM and heres the scoop:

Black= Ground, should go to the blower mortor area.
Light Green = goes to the 3 terminal plug that plug into the wiper motor.
Yellow = goes to the 3 terminal plug that plug into the wiper motor.
Light Blue = goes to the 3 terminal plug that plug into the wiper motor.

There is also a red wire that come from the limit switch and supplies power to the motor only if the wiper door is fully open. There are two other wires that go to the wiper motor but I think they are for the washer pump.
You should only have the black (gnd) wire hooked to the lug on the motor case. Since the blue wire was hooked on it and melted the black it is probally safe to say the blue wire is hot. Its late but I can look at my cars wiring tomorrow and get back with you. In the mean time go here: http://www.71corvette.com/wiper2.html

I think the dark blue wire runs from the wiper dash switch into the wiper relay before going to the wiper motor. On my '70 I think that relay is un the underside of the shifter console tunnel on the passenger side (kind of just below and to the front of where the 3rd gear gate on a 4-speed would be). Two relays under there (the other is for power windows). From that relay the wire runs out thru the firewall into a common connector with the yellow wire from the same circuit. That connector has a matching buddy someplace up around the wiper motor. You'll just need to hunt for it. I'm going from memory on this, so if you still can't locate the plug ends re-post and I'll poke around on mine to see if I can trace.
