Lightweight battery
Almost time to replace that ancient 40 pound lead brick. Technology MUST have improved enough to get the weight down. Anyone have any lightweight battery recommendations?

I bought a lightweight battery from Summit. The cold cranking specs are 800CCA and it weighs around 26lbs. This battery has perfromed better than the Optima I once used. The battery has suffered from neglect and returned back from a Winter storage where the floating charger became disconnected and is still perfroming well 2 years after that fact. The Optima SUCKED!! and after trying them in 2 vehicles with a couple of warranties, I gave up on them. I made a plywood adapter base to mount the smaller casing race battery and a custom hold down angle with all thread and 1/2X1/2" angle so it is competition legal. I will relace it with the same type when it fails to hold a charge and pass a load test like my Optimas did (almost every Spring time it seemed.) I think they are sold under the Odyssey brand now at Summit.

26 pounds sound pretty good. I've heard about a battery called Dyno-batt or something that is also pretty light (but expensive).
Somewhat suprised at the lack of responses - I've seen 30 post indepth discussion about saving 8 pounds on 4 expensive aluminum calipers and no one cares about losing 25+ pounds with a lightweight battery?

Just buy a Vertex Magneto dist. With it you can delete, alternator, abattery, starter (need external starter), and coil. :D
We ran them on out race cars, still have two of the from my dad's race cars. :cool:

I inquired using specs from my Vette, No ac, no radio, no p/windows, and a 100amp alt.. The BIG one is PC925T which has 925 cranking power and weighs about 24.5 lbs @ $106+ship. They do have a smaller one that the owner even uses himself in a street rod w/ac. Give 'em a call there is an 888 # on the website.
I might joke around a little, but I do come through. :thumbs:
