Default well this SUCKED!!!!

hooked up the carb, put on the demon braided steel fuel line i had laying around and tossed the chrome orielly's unit...cranked it over for about 10 sec to get the fuel in...then sprayed in some starter fluid and went to crank again and the passenger side of the engine caught fire...flames were orange which i am guessing is fuel...I acted fast and was able to put out the fire with a hose i had laying next to the car....fire extinguisher was to far away.

I didn't hurt anything, or so it seems. Flames were about 2-3 feet high off the engine.

Hopefully it's safe to try and start in just a little while.... I am worried about what caused it. I took the carb off about 4-5 days ago...could i have spilled some fuel and it still have been there? I think I heard a small intake backfire.

that could have gone wery bad!
dont think that it was any fuel left after 4 days, then you must have spilled alot!
Must have been a backfire and a flodding carb ore something.

I had a little fire several months ago as well. Had just installed a fire extinguisher and it paid for itself that day. :)

That sucks! I've had that incident before, on an 85 Pontiac Fiero, caught that little thing on fire. I laughed so hard it brings a tear to my eye.

So what do you think ignited the leaked gas? I assume the engine was cold so it wouldnt have been a hot exhaust. Make sure your ignition wires are in good shape and all your electrical connections are good. That gas needed a spark to ignite. Ive spilled and leaked gas several times in the past. I guess I got lucky since it didnt light off.

:iagree: I would change all wires on that side at least. You can never be too careful

 Whoa dude !.....2-3 foot flames ?!? - OMG

I've had a 1-foot flame shoot out of the carb. but that's really scary.

Now that everything's calmer.......too bad you didn't have a video. :jester
....and at least now you can say your engine is flame tested too.

Okay I'm :leaving:
