hooked up the carb, put on the demon braided steel fuel line i had laying around and tossed the chrome orielly's unit...cranked it over for about 10 sec to get the fuel in...then sprayed in some starter fluid and went to crank again and the passenger side of the engine caught fire...flames were orange which i am guessing is fuel...I acted fast and was able to put out the fire with a hose i had laying next to the car....fire extinguisher was to far away.
I didn't hurt anything, or so it seems. Flames were about 2-3 feet high off the engine.
Hopefully it's safe to try and start in just a little while.... I am worried about what caused it. I took the carb off about 4-5 days ago...could i have spilled some fuel and it still have been there? I think I heard a small intake backfire.
that could have gone wery bad!
dont think that it was any fuel left after 4 days, then you must have spilled alot!
Must have been a backfire and a flodding carb ore something.
found the problem. i went out there and tried to start again.....my bg fuel line is shoot fuel out in a stream thats about 3 feet long!!! i guess i will be going back to the chromie...
got it figured out and hopefully fixed......in the back of my bg line i didn't have the line tightened down...i was a dumass and tightened it down the same as the primary side which is different.
So what do you think ignited the leaked gas? I assume the engine was cold so it wouldnt have been a hot exhaust. Make sure your ignition wires are in good shape and all your electrical connections are good. That gas needed a spark to ignite. Ive spilled and leaked gas several times in the past. I guess I got lucky since it didnt light off.
